McDonald's Offers Free Medium Fries in Washington for National French Fry Day

McDonald's is handing out free medium fries for National French Fry Day, and Washington state customers can grab some today. All you need is the McDonald's app, a MyMcDonald's Rewards account, and a purchase of at least $1, according to The News Tribune.
The deal is only available through the McDonald's app at participating locations. No app, no fries. McDonald's is not the only chain running a deal — several other fast food spots are also offering freebies to rewards members today, Bellingham Herald reports.
The steps are simple. Download the McDonald's app if you don't already have it. Sign up for MyMcDonald's Rewards. Then place an order of at least $1 and the free medium fries will be added to your cart, according to Tri-City Herald.
The offer is only valid on Friday, July 10. It is limited to participating locations across Washington state. If your local McDonald's is not part of the deal, you won't be able to claim the free fries there.
McDonald's isn't alone in celebrating National French Fry Day. Arby's, Chick-fil-A, and Jack in the Box are also offering special deals today, according to Yahoo Style. Like McDonald's, these chains are limiting their deals to rewards members only.
The pattern is the same across all these chains. You need to be signed up for their rewards program and place your order through their app. If you're not already a member, signing up is usually free and takes just a few minutes.
National French Fry Day falls every year on July 13, though some chains celebrate it on the nearest Friday. These food holidays give chains a reason to push app downloads and rewards sign-ups. A free item gets customers in the door — and into the app ecosystem.
Once you're in a rewards program, the chain can send you deals and track your orders. Free fries today can turn into a loyal, repeat customer tomorrow. It's a small giveaway with a big marketing payoff for the brand.
