Olympus Secures Global Distribution Agreement for Endocision's Portable Respiratory Cryobiopsy System
Olympus Corporation has struck an exclusive global distribution deal with Endocision for a portable, single-use respiratory cryobiopsy system, according to AP News. The system is designed to help doctors perform diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopic procedures — that is, procedures that examine and treat airways in the lungs.
The device is expected to reach hospitals in the US, Canada, and Europe early next year, PR Newswire reported. Unlike older cryobiopsy tools, the system needs no electric power source or large CO2 tanks to operate.
What the Cryobiopsy System Actually Does
Cryobiopsy uses extreme cold to freeze and remove small tissue samples from the lungs. Doctors use these samples to diagnose diseases like lung cancer. The Endocision system delivers this cold through a flexible catheter — a thin, bendable tube — inserted through a bronchoscope into the airway.
The system also supports cryoextraction, which means using cold to grab and remove material from the airways. Both uses can help doctors diagnose and treat lung conditions faster, according to PR Newswire.
Portable Design Expands Access Beyond Specialty Centers
