Dietz & Watson Unveils New Heritage Roast and Cantina Chicken Breasts for Deli Counters

Dietz & Watson unveiled two new sliced-to-order chicken breast flavors at the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) Show in Orlando on June 7, 2026, according to GlobeNewswire. The Philadelphia-based deli brand introduced Heritage Roast Chicken Breast and Cantina Chicken Breast at its booth, targeting shoppers who want both comfort food and bold global flavors at the deli counter.
Both new flavors are gluten-free and made without artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors. The launch comes as meat department dollar sales rose 5.8% heading into mid-2026, outpacing every other perimeter department in grocery stores, per Supermarket News.
Heritage Roast Chicken Breast leans into classic, homestyle taste. Cantina Chicken Breast draws from global cuisine, designed for tacos, grain bowls, and street-food-style meals at home. Chief Marketing Officer Lauren Eni Canseco said the two flavors cover very different cravings. "Heritage Roast speaks to the timeless comfort families love, while Cantina Chicken introduces a fresh, vibrant flavor inspired by global cuisine," she said, per GlobeNewswire.
President and CEO Louis Eni added that the launch reflects the company's roots as a family-owned brand. "The deli counter should offer both trusted classics and exciting new flavors," he said. Dietz & Watson has 706 employees and remains one of the largest family-owned premium deli providers in the country, according to Street Insider.
The new products align with a clear shift in how Americans shop for food. Data from Acosta Group shows that 59% of grocery decisions in 2026 now involve reading the ingredient label. Shoppers are moving away from heavily processed options and toward clean, simple proteins, per Progressive Grocer.
The rise of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs is also reshaping what lands in the cart. About 12% of U.S. adults currently use or have used GLP-1 medications as of mid-2026. That group skews strongly toward high-protein, low-additive foods — exactly what Dietz & Watson's new chicken line offers, according to Yahoo Finance.
Dietz & Watson was not alone at IDDBA 2026 with a chicken play. Competitor Mama's Creations announced its own "No Antibiotics Ever" chicken platform at the same show. The event drew over 10,000 attendees and 1,000 exhibitors in Orlando, making it the year's biggest stage for deli innovation, per GlobeNewswire.
Analysts at Food Trade News noted that branding one product "Heritage" and the other "Cantina" is a deliberate two-audience strategy. It targets nostalgic older shoppers with one and flavor-seeking younger consumers with the other. The U.S. gluten-free food market — which covers both new products — is projected to hit $6.7 billion in 2026 and grow to $13.2 billion by 2036.
Live tastings and sliced-to-order demos ran at IDDBA Booth #2600 from June 7 through June 9. A broader retail rollout is planned for July 2026. Dietz & Watson will push recipes to its website and embed them into point-of-sale materials in stores, per Yahoo Finance Canada.
In-store demo programs will support the launch at retail partners. The company also plans QR codes on deli tags so shoppers can pull up recipes on the spot. Canseco said the goal is to make the deli counter more useful for everyday weeknight cooking, not just sandwich slicing.
