Hyperion Materials & Technologies Releases Guide for Advanced Aerospace Manufacturing Solutions

Hyperion Materials & Technologies has released a new guide called Aerospace Manufacturing, aimed at helping aerospace toolmakers choose the right cutting materials for tough machining jobs. The guide is now available through Hyperion's online resource library, according to Financial Post.
The guide targets a key challenge in aerospace manufacturing: cutting through extremely hard materials. These include heat-resistant superalloys, titanium, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), and hardened steel — all common in aircraft and engine parts.
The guide is built for two main audiences: aerospace toolmakers and original equipment manufacturers, also called OEMs. These are the companies that build the actual parts and tools used in aircraft. Financial Post reports the guide helps them pick advanced carbide and diamond materials for their specific needs.
Aerospace parts are notoriously hard to machine. Materials like titanium and heat-resistant superalloys (HRSA) wear down cutting tools fast. CFRP, used in modern aircraft bodies, is abrasive and can damage standard tooling quickly. The guide offers specific recommendations for each of these material types.
One key product featured in the guide is AM10F, a carbide grade developed by Hyperion. It is designed specifically for machining titanium and HRSA turbine components, according to The Province. Turbine parts must handle extreme heat and stress, making them one of the hardest items to machine in aerospace.
Carbide is a very hard material used to make cutting tools. It lasts longer and cuts cleaner than standard steel tools when working with tough aerospace metals. Hyperion's AM10F is positioned as a solution for shops that struggle with tool wear and short tool life on difficult parts.
