Meta Unveils AI Business Agent Platform to Automate Customer Support and Sales Across Apps

Meta unveiled its Business Agent, an AI tool aimed at helping businesses automate customer support, lead qualification, and sales across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. Announced at Conversations 2026 in London, the agent is positioned as a virtual assistant that can respond in customers’ local languages in a company’s preferred tone, recommend products, book appointments, close sales, and hand conversations to human staff when needed. Meta says more than a million businesses already use similar AI agents and is expanding availability globally to businesses of all sizes, with added discovery features that let users find Business Agent-enabled businesses on WhatsApp. The company is also extending the Business Agent to Instagram and plans to introduce paid subscription options after an initial free rollout. Separately, Bloomberg reports Meta will begin charging for the service as part of a broader push to monetize offerings and offset heavy investments in AI, while Meta’s own materials describe a Business Agent Platform for building and customizing these agents inside enterprise workflows.
Meta said its WhatsApp discovery features would let users search for Business Agent-enabled businesses by name, and also share business contact information with friends/family to help people connect with those companies more easily.
Meta highlighted that the Business Agent isn’t only for replying to customers: it can also act as a “partner” that delivers a “morning briefing” to catch businesses up on chats they missed overnight and provide insights on their threads.
Bloomberg reported that Meta will begin charging “some customers” starting Wednesday, with a company spokesperson saying the agent’s core functionality is chatting with customers across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
In coverage of Meta’s push toward enterprise-focused AI, Devdiscourse attributed a rationale to Naomi Gleit that Meta is shifting toward enterprise solutions and aiming to outpace competitors like OpenAI and Google by giving businesses customizable AI tools.
