Volkswagen Renames ID.4 Successor ID. Tiguan to Boost Electric Vehicle Recognition

Volkswagen will rename the ID.4’s successor the ID. Tiguan, using the familiar name of its best-selling SUV to make its electric models more recognizable; it will be sold alongside, not replace, the combustion-powered Tiguan. The redesigned electric SUV is expected to retain Volkswagen’s MEB platform and offer single- and dual-motor versions, with reported 58- and 77-kWh battery options, a projected range of about 280 to 373 miles and towing capacity of up to two tonnes; final specifications have not been confirmed. Its more upright exterior is expected to feature revised front and rear styling, a full-width lighting treatment, pronounced wheel arches and conventional pull-type door handles, while the interior is expected to add more conventional controls and a larger driver display. Volkswagen plans to reveal the ID. Tiguan in October, with a European launch in early 2027 and a North American arrival later.
