Modern Warfare 4 Reveals Kill Block: Dynamic Map Reconfigures Gameplay with 500+ Layouts

Kill Block’s overall map footprint is roughly the size of Shoot House (MW2019), even as its three-slab system creates hundreds of configurations. This means players won’t be navigating a dramatically larger arena, but will experience constant layout changes within a familiar combat footprint.
A concrete example of the cross-map slab integration shows Highrise from MW2, the Station Gunfight map from MW2019, and Cabin coming together in a single combo configuration, illustrating how old and new pieces are stitched into new layouts.
Beyond Gunfight, there are explicit plans to expand Kill Block with more Slabs and to make its modular map system compatible with additional core multiplayer modes in future updates.
Fanatics Fest in New York City included a public showcase for Kill Block with hands-on gameplay, plus a one-on-one showcase featuring NBA champions Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns as part of the event coverage.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has revealed Kill Block, a multiplayer map that rebuilds itself every single match. The map uses three swappable pieces — two End Slabs and one Central Slab — to form a new layout each round, according to GameSpot. At launch on October 23, players will face over 500 possible configurations.
The map is set at the fictional West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility. Despite its ability to constantly reshape itself, Kill Block stays roughly the same size as Shoot House from MW2019, Gaming Trend reports. That means familiar combat pacing — just with layouts that never repeat.
Kill Block is built from three modular pieces called Slabs. Two End Slabs anchor the outer edges of the map. One Central Slab fills the middle. Before each match, the game picks a new combination — called a "Combo" — from those three pieces, Gaming Trend explains. The result is a brand-new layout with different sightlines, routes, and choke points every time.
Some Slabs are completely new locations. Others are reworked versions of fan-favorite maps. One example combo pulls together Highrise from MW2, the Station Gunfight map from MW2019, and a location called Cabin — all stitched into a single playable layout, according to Gaming Trend. The mix forces teams to adapt fast instead of relying on memorized routes.
Activision confirmed that several iconic Call of Duty locations will appear as Slabs inside Kill Block. Crash, Shoot House, Storage Town, Killhouse, and Ambush are all getting the modular treatment, GameSpot reports. These familiar spots won't stand alone — they'll connect to neighboring Slabs in new configurations players have never seen before.
Weather effects and destructible elements add another layer of variety on top of the layout changes. Even the same Slab combo can feel different depending on conditions. The goal, according to Playday One, is to keep every match feeling fresh rather than letting players fall back on muscle memory.
Kill Block will support Gunfight's 3v3 mode and a new 10v10 mode at launch on October 23, Nintendo Everything reports. The larger 10v10 format is a first for Gunfight and takes advantage of Kill Block's wider footprint. More Slabs are already planned as post-launch updates, which will grow the number of possible combinations even further.
Activision also plans to make Kill Block's modular system work with other core multiplayer modes down the line, Playday One notes. That could eventually bring the ever-changing map format to standard playlists beyond Gunfight. No firm timeline has been given for those expansions yet.
Kill Block is playable right now at Fanatics Fest in New York City's Javits Center. The public hands-on event runs from July 16 to 19, Nintendo Everything reports. It is one of the first chances for regular players to try the map before the October 23 launch.
The showcase also included a one-on-one session featuring NBA champions Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, according to Go Nintendo. The celebrity tie-in is part of a broader marketing push ahead of MW4's release. The game will also launch on Switch 2, making it one of the biggest third-party titles on that platform.
