Instagram Edits Introduces Bilingual Captions, AI Restyle Tools, and Enhanced Creator Features

A new Olivia Rodrigo–inspired font was introduced as part of the Edits update, tied to a promotion around her latest album.
Edits updates are positioned to integrate with Instagram's Series monetization and distribution tools, enabling creators to publish episodic and premium content directly via Edits.
The bilingual captions feature supports a defined set of languages at launch, including English, Indonesian, Russian, Portuguese, Gujarati, Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Bengali, German, Italian, Thai, French, Japanese and Kannada.
Instagram indicated that more languages could be added in future updates, signaling ongoing expansion of multilingual support.
Meta has rolled out a major update to its standalone video editing app, Instagram Edits, adding bilingual captions that automatically translate content across 15 languages. The update also brings a clip-lock feature, overlay-enabled templates, and extended video exports of up to 15 minutes on iOS, according to Adgully and Social Samosa.
The rollout is part of Meta's push to keep creators inside its own ecosystem — from shooting to editing to publishing — as it competes directly with third-party tools like CapCut. Fonearena reported that the features are aimed at improving accessibility and reach for creators worldwide.
The bilingual captions feature lets creators display two languages at once in their videos. At launch, it supports 15 languages: English, Indonesian, Russian, Portuguese, Gujarati, Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Bengali, German, Italian, Thai, French, Japanese, and Kannada, according to The Tech Outlook.
Instagram says more languages will be added in future updates. The feature is aimed at creators who want to reach audiences beyond their home country — for example, a Hindi-speaking creator expanding into English-speaking markets, Mediabrief noted.
The clip-lock tool lets editors fix specific video segments in place on the timeline. This stops them from shifting accidentally when a creator adds music, transitions, or new footage on top. Fonearena described it as a precision tool built for longer or more complex projects.
iOS users also get a new video length cap of 15 minutes, up from a previous 10-minute limit. That change supports Instagram's Series format, which lets creators publish episodic content — and even put it behind a paywall, according to Mediabrief.
Meta added a custom font inspired by pop star Olivia Rodrigo, tied to the promotion of her latest album. The font is available directly inside the Edits app, making it one of the first artist-branded design tools built into a major editing platform.
The update also includes summer-themed sound effects and AI-powered restyle tools that let creators change the look of their video using simple text prompts. Opacity controls for stickers and text give users more fine-tuned visual options, Social Samosa reported.
Instagram Edits launched on March 31, 2025, just as regulatory pressure forced ByteDance's CapCut out of the U.S. market. Meta designed Edits so creators never have to leave Instagram's ecosystem — shoot, edit, and publish all in one place, with no third-party watermarks on exports.
Critics argue the strategy is less about creativity and more about lock-in — making native tools just good enough to stop creators from switching apps. But for small teams without big budgets, the watermark-free 4K export and built-in monetization tools are hard to ignore, according to Adgully.
