PlatinumGames Leads AAA TMNT: The Last Ronin Game, Featuring Dark Vengeance Story

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin returned at Summer Game Fest 2026 with a brief announcement trailer and no release date. Paramount Games Studio will publish the AAA action-adventure, with PlatinumGames now leading development after an earlier Black Forest Games/THQ Nordic effort went quiet. The game will adapt the comic’s bleak premise, with the Foot Clan taking over dystopian New York and leaving a single surviving Turtle on a desperate mission for vengeance. Console and PC versions were confirmed, though no gameplay was shown and more details are still pending. Paramount also teased a larger tie-in push, including limited-edition Bosslogic merchandise and a new 10-page comic prequel, The Last Ronin: Training Day, launching in July.
The dystopian premise is further detailed: the Foot Clan is led by Oroku Hiroto, described as “the grandson of the Shredder,” and the lone surviving Turtle is driven by grief and the need for justice while carrying the weapons of his fallen brothers.
Multiple reports tie the game closely to the original IDW story, noting that the comic centers on the last living Turtle—Michaelangelo—seeking revenge for the deaths of Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael (it’s also described as originating from an early concept by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird).
The teaser’s messaging includes the line “When all that remains is vengeance,” emphasizing a revenge-driven tone even though the trailer still doesn’t show meaningful gameplay.
Beyond the story setup, GamesRadar describes the lone Turtle as brandishing “a couple of swords,” wearing tinted sunglasses, and suggests the aesthetic/combat feel may echo the studio’s Ninja Gaiden style.
Consequence frames the reveal in the context of TMNT screen plans, saying fans are getting “the next best thing after the R-rated movie based on the dark and gritty storyline was scrapped.”
