DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations DLC Introduces New Weapon and Levels on July 7

The Revelations DLC introduces a Metroidvania-style hub that expands exploration with puzzles and hidden corridors, adding replayability beyond the main campaign.
Classic levels from earlier Doom games—mostly Doom 2—are recreated on the new engine with updated enemies, providing a bridge between legacy and modern Doom visuals and pace.
The Chain Spear is the centerpiece of Revelations, offering melee thrusts (Stab), long-range (Throw), and mobility via dash and grapple that lets you maneuver around enemies; its full power is unlocked only by progressing through the entire campaign.
Endgame content includes four Master Arenas and the Uber Boss, with the Ripatorium serving as an endless-arena style culmination of the DLC’s hardest challenges.
A free Ripatorium 3.0 update is planned to launch alongside Revelations, bringing three new maps, demons, upgraded weapons for use in Ripatorium, and broader customization options like preset options and improved pass-code generation.
id Software's biggest DLC yet arrives on July 7. PCGamesN reports that DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, packing 10 to 12 hours of new content across six levels. The studio calls it "the culmination of 35 years of DOOM."
The expansion swaps out the Shield Saw for an all-new Chain Spear and adds a Metroidvania-style hub, four Master Arenas, and an Uber Boss. A free Ripatorium 3.0 update — with three new maps and new demons — launches the same day for all players, according to Game Rant.
The Chain Spear is the heart of Revelations. Game Rant explains it does three things: a short melee Stab, a long-range Throw, and a dash or grapple that lets you swing around enemies at speed. Game Director Hugo Martin said the goal was to make the Slayer feel like "a monster truck with a jet engine strapped to your back."
The weapon replaces the Shield Saw as the DLC's central tool. Its full power only unlocks after finishing the whole campaign. TechRaptor notes that Martin and Executive Producer Marty Stratton said they have wanted to build this kind of content since DOOM 2016.
Revelations brings back levels from earlier Doom games — mostly DOOM 2 — rebuilt on the new idTech engine. Inven Global reports the maps come with updated enemies and a faster pace. They act as a bridge between the franchise's 1990s roots and the modern medieval setting of The Dark Ages.
The Purgatory hub ties it all together. It works like a Metroidvania, meaning some areas start locked. You go back and open them once you earn new abilities later in the campaign. TechRaptor says this adds replay value beyond the main six-level story run.
After the campaign ends with the Astral Key, four Master Arenas and an Uber Boss open up. The Ripatorium acts as an endless-arena mode for the hardest challenges. Inven Global calls this an "endgame" — a term usually tied to live-service games like Destiny 2 — now applied to a pure single-player shooter.
About 60% of Revelations is campaign-driven and 40% is endgame-focused, according to PCGamesN. The free Ripatorium 3.0 update adds three new maps, new demons, upgraded weapons, preset options, and better pass-code tools. Marty Stratton confirmed the DLC is larger than both DOOM Eternal expansions combined.
Revelations is tougher than the base game. But Gamers Heroes reports that id Software kept all accessibility sliders in place. The team said they wanted to avoid repeating the backlash against DOOM Eternal's Ancient Gods DLCs, which some players called "unnecessarily brutal."
The expansion was unveiled at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026. It is included in the Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade. Inven Global notes it is also a flagship title for Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. It is rated Mature for blood, gore, and intense violence.
