DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations Expansion Launches July 7 With New Chain Spear

Bethesda and id Software announced DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations, a major expansion arriving in early July for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with most reports pointing to a July 7 release date (though at least one outlet lists July 9). The campaign puts the Slayer in a merciless purgatory inside his own mind after he is wounded and betrayed, as a mysterious ally helps him confront haunting truths and an “abomination of the gods.” Players can expect deeper puzzles plus new demons and mysteries, along with the Chain Spear, a new weapon built to boost mobility and close-range lethality and offer more advanced combat utility such as parrying bullets. The update also includes Ripatorium 3.0, adding new DLC content including three new maps, additional demons, and fully upgraded new weapons, plus expanded customization features like improved passcode generation and saving/loading personal presets. While the expansion is not included with Xbox Game Pass, it will be available for owners of the Premium Edition or Premium Upgrade and can also be purchased separately at launch.
Before the release date reveal, id Software had been teasing the expansion’s “size and scale” through game director Hugo Martin, with the company only finally confirming Revelations publicly when the Xbox Games Showcase event rolled around.
Id Software’s description (as relayed by GameRant) adds a specific detail to the premise: the Slayer’s “arsenal [is] broken and damaged” as he enters the purgatory inside his mind, and he must team up with a “mysterious ally” to survive the prison.
Playday.one reports that Revelations’ puzzle-solving isn’t just a side mechanic—“many of them tied to the new spear,” implying the Chain Spear is central to both combat and progression.
Bethesda/id’s trailer framing emphasizes the Chain Spear’s combat design goals beyond mobility: it’s described as an “all-new deadly Chain Spear” that aims to “open up a whole new dimension of combat,” and as a system that “rewards mastery with enhanced power and mobility” for returning slayers.
