Samsung Partners with Barclays to Launch Wallet-Native Galaxy Card in US

Wallet-first experience: Samsung Galaxy Card is instantly provisioned to Samsung Wallet and is issued by Barclays on the Visa network.
The card includes a 20% discount on Samsung's VIP Advantage loyalty/warranty program.
It is Samsung's first co-brand credit card in the United States.
Consumers can apply for the Galaxy Card online or at Samsung retail stores, highlighting a broad access approach ahead of Samsung’s Unpacked event.
Samsung is launching its first-ever US credit card, the Samsung Galaxy Card, in partnership with Barclays and Visa. The card goes live July 22, ahead of Samsung's Unpacked event, according to Samsung Mobile Press.
The card has no annual fee and is built entirely inside Samsung Wallet. It offers 5% cash back on direct Samsung purchases, 3% back when paying through Samsung Wallet, 2% on streaming services, and 1% on everything else. New cardholders can also earn a $200 bonus after spending $2,000 in the first 90 days, Samsung Mobile Press reports.
The Samsung Galaxy Card is Samsung's first co-branded credit card in the United States. It is issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank and runs on the Visa network, Mezha reports. The card is designed to compete directly with Apple Card, which has dominated the digital-wallet credit card space since 2019.
HiTechHub notes that critics have long argued Apple Card oversold its capabilities. Samsung is now positioning its card as a direct rival. The Galaxy Card is instantly added to Samsung Wallet the moment it is approved — no waiting for a physical card to arrive in the mail.
The card's best rate is 5% cash back on purchases made directly through Samsung — including phones, tablets, and appliances. Shoppers who pay with Samsung Wallet at other stores earn 3% back. Streaming service subscribers get 2% back, and all other purchases earn 1%, according to Thurrott.
Cardholders also get a 20% discount on Samsung's VIP Advantage program, which covers loyalty perks and warranty coverage. Investing.com describes the card as a significant step into financial services for Samsung, one that ties rewards tightly to its own devices and ecosystem.
For Barclays, this is its first digital-wallet-native card in the US market. The British bank has been expanding its US consumer business for years. This deal gives Barclays access to Samsung's large US customer base, Mezha reports.
The entire card experience — from applying to managing payments — happens inside Samsung Wallet. Users can also apply online or at Samsung retail stores. Investing.com says this signals Samsung's broader ambition to push deeper into financial services beyond just hardware.
Samsung is timing the card launch to land just before its Unpacked event on July 22. That is when the company typically reveals new Galaxy devices. Launching the card first lets Samsung offer 5% cash back on preorders of whatever phones it announces, Thurrott notes.
Digital wallet payments are growing steadily worldwide. Samsung already has hundreds of millions of Galaxy device users. By adding a credit card native to Samsung Wallet, the company is trying to keep users spending, earning, and staying inside its own ecosystem — the same strategy Apple has used for years, according to Samsung Mobile Press.
