Southern California faces intense heat advisory and lingering dangerous surf after Tropical Storm Marie.

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles-Oxnard has issued a heat advisory for Wednesday and Thursday and is on alert to increase the warnings if the weather gets worse. A significant jump in temperature is expected by Tuesday, with temperatures expected to be "10 to 20 degrees above normal" across coastal parts of the region. This comes after a weekend of coastal flooding, rain and high surf brought by remnants of Tropical Storm Marie. High surf and coastal flooding advisories remain in place until 11 p.m. Tuesday. South-facing beaches in Long Beach and Malibu were particularly affected by high swells, higher-than-high tides and tropical-storm-charged waves. High tide levels can fluctuate depending on the season's high tide levels. Public health officials have urged public health officials to avoid swimming in the ocean due to potential bacterial spikes.
