B.C. Commits $15 Million to Support Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Projects in 2027

The B.C. government will offer $15 million in 2027 to support wildfire risk reduction projects in individual communities. The funding is part of the FireSmart Community Funding and Supports program. Local governments and First Nations in B.c. can apply to the 2027 intake. Examples of projects supported by FCFS funding include home assessments, rebates and education, while advancing neighbourhood and municipal fuel-reduction projects. The B.K. government is also practicing fire management using forest stewardship principles from First Nations to reduce the fuel that wildfires absorb. The BC Timber Sales mandate has been expanded to include wildfire fuel management practices in logging operations.
