Biomass Initiative Explores Torrefied Pellet Production

Ontario's Forest Biomass Program is providing $1.6 million to fund engineering and feasibility work for a torrefied pellet facility Financial Post. Torrefied pellets are wood treated at high heat—they're denser and burn cleaner than regular wood pellets. The study will determine if Chapleau is the right location for production.

If built, the facility would employ 30 people directly and support 70 indirect jobs in the region Montreal Gazette. Torrefied pellets are increasingly popular in Europe and Asia as a renewable energy source for utilities and industrial heating.
