A 96-seat regional jet can profitably fly a route like Raleigh-Durham to Belize, where a major carrier would lose money filling a 180-seat plane, according to Upgraded Points.
The strategy targets resort travelers willing to pay more for a direct flight. Most routes run only once or twice a week during defined winter windows, which keeps seat loads manageable. Analysts Split on Whether BermudAir Is Thriving or Overreaching
The expansion has drawn sharp reactions. Industry observers noted that an airline called BermudAir now plans routes that never go near Bermuda. The moves prompted one prominent aviation blogger to call it "the strangest expansion we've ever seen," questioning whether the original Bermuda routes were underperforming, according to Upgraded Points.
Supporters point to the airline's 2025 Anguilla experiment as proof the model works. Anguilla's infrastructure minister said Boston-Anguilla flights sold out before the season ended last year, forcing an extension this winter, WBAL-TV reported. BermudAir launched in August 2023 and has since grown into a full East Coast-to-island network in under three years.
