Tropical Depression Edouard Drenches Texas With Severe Flooding and Power Outages

Former Tropical Storm Edouard has weakened into a tropical depression but has caused heavy rain, flooding and downing trees in parts of Texas. The storm made landfall near the Texas-Louisiana border, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph). Schools and municipal offices were closed and residents were advised to stay indoors. Some areas northwest of Beaumont, Texas, received between 10 inches and 21 inches of rain within hours. The system was losing strength as it moved inland but still producing heavy rains and some flooding. About 75,000 utility customers across at least eight counties were without electricity as of Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, in the Pacific, two hurricanes and a tropical storm are developing in the open waters.
