Boeing 787's GE GEnx-1B Engine Logs 50 Million Flight Hours, Sets New Record

GE Aerospace's GEnx-1B engine, which powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has crossed 50 million flight hours in just over 14 years, according to Yahoo Finance. That is the fastest any GE Aerospace commercial widebody engine has ever reached that milestone.
The engine now flies with more than 50 airlines around the world. It is logging over 600,000 flight hours every single month, according to Stock Titan.
The GEnx-1B posts a 99.98% dispatch reliability rate, according to Yahoo Finance. That means airlines almost never have to delay or cancel a flight because of this engine. It is a number the industry rarely sees.
The engine also stays on the wing three times longer than competing engines before needing maintenance. Fewer shop visits mean lower costs for airlines. That kind of reliability is a key reason more than 50 operators have chosen it, Stock Titan reported.
GE Aerospace did not just sell the GEnx-1B and walk away. Over the last decade, the company upgraded the engine's high-pressure turbine blades and improved the combustor coating technology, according to Goldea Capital. Those are the parts that take the most heat and stress during flight.
These upgrades helped the engine stay competitive against newer rivals. Better coatings and stronger blades mean the engine runs more efficiently and lasts longer between repairs.
