Illinois Man Dies After Three Semi-Trucks Collide on US-30 in Kosciusko County

Responding agencies at the Pierceton crash included Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, North Webster Police Department, Winona Lake Police Department, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Washington Township Fire Department, Lutheran EMS, and Reichert & Knepp Towing.
In addition to Bacorn, the other drivers were Christopher Lee of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and John A. Lamourine of Zanesville, Ohio, the two who were involved in the crash but sustained no injuries.
The death of Richard L. Bacorn was pronounced on scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, according to the crash reports.
A 65-year-old Illinois truck driver died Sunday evening after his semi slammed into two rigs stopped at a red light in Kosciusko County, Indiana. The crash happened around 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of US-30 and State Road 13 near Pierceton, according to WNDU.
Richard L. Bacorn, of Orland Park, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner's Office, Hoodline reported. The two other drivers walked away without injuries.
Two westbound semis were stopped at a red light when Bacorn's semi struck the second truck from behind. The impact pushed that truck into the one ahead of it. Bacorn's semi then came to rest after hitting both vehicles, WNDU reported.
Bacorn's truck had no trailers attached at the time. The other two semis each pulled double trailers, according to Journal Gazette. That difference in size and weight may be a key detail as investigators piece together the crash.
The driver of the second semi was Christopher Lee, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The first semi was driven by John A. Lamourine, of Zanesville, Ohio. Both men were uninjured, according to InkFreeNews.
Bacorn was driving west on US-30 when he failed to stop before hitting the two parked semis, Hoodline reported. Authorities have not yet released a cause for why he did not stop.
At least eight agencies responded to the crash. They included Kosciusko County 911 Dispatch, the Coroner's Office, North Webster Police, Winona Lake Police, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Washington Township Fire, Lutheran EMS, and Reichert & Knepp Towing, per 21Alive News.
