US and partners engage Iran in Persian Gulf, down drones, strike radar sites after ceasefire fails.

A fragile ceasefire with Iran broke down as U.S. forces and regional partners engaged in a heavy exchange across the Persian Gulf, prompting concerns for shipping lanes near the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command said it shot down four one-way attack drones headed toward the strait and then struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites on Qeshm Island and near Goruk to prevent further attacks. Iran also fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain, with U.S. air defenses intercepting six; Bahrain activated air-raid sirens and reported destroying additional missiles while Kuwait dealt with hostile missile and drone attacks. The events came as President Trump’s administration increased pressure on Iran to reach a deal to end the conflict. The U.S. said there were no reports of harm to American personnel, while Iran’s claims included targeting U.S.-linked military facilities, underscoring the dispute over what was actually hit. CENTCOM said it remains vigilant and prepared to respond to what it described as Iranian aggression in self-defense.
