Bio-native AI firm MindWalk patents data architecture, seeking durable advantage as models commoditize.

Austin-based MindWalk Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: HYFT) filed a European patent application on July 1, 2026, targeting the multi-dimensional data architecture at the core of its HYFT® Technology, according to Cold Lake Sun. The application — No. EP26187897.9 — covers a database of 660 million unique biological patterns and a method that uses vector-based operations to infer additional biological properties from them.
The move reflects a growing belief across enterprise AI: as large language models become cheap and interchangeable, the real competitive edge lies in the data layer underneath them. CEO Dr. Jennifer Bath put it plainly. The durable advantage, she said, is "not the model a team licenses but the biological context it can reason over," Financial Post reported.
The patent describes a data object that is unusually rich. Each single object carries a biological subsequence alongside at least 50 heterogeneous properties — including structural and functional data — according to Calgary Herald. Those objects are then linked across 25 billion documented biological relationships, connecting genetic sequences to 3D structures to real-world function.
MindWalk calls these core units "HYFTs" — evolution-shaped subsequence codes that took 15 years to build. Co-founder and CTO Dr. Dirk Van Hyfte says the architecture lets researchers "step outside sequence thinking" to find functional constraints that matter in drug discovery. The company argues this stops AI from producing dangerous errors — what the industry calls "hallucinations" — in high-stakes biological work.
MindWalk was not always a data company. It rebranded from ImmunoPrecise Antibodies Ltd. on September 3, 2025, shifting from a wet-lab service provider to what it calls a "Bio-Native AI" company, according to Vancouver Sun. The pivot has moved fast. By May 2026, the company had mapped over 20 partner-owned drug programs to its discovery engine, with 10 programs already in active Phase 1–3 human trials.
Recent proof-of-concept results have backed up the claims. In June 2026, the HYFT platform correctly predicted cross-reactive antibodies against all four dengue serotypes. The European Patent Office adds another hurdle. EU rules require software-related patents to have clear "technical character" — meaning a concrete technical effect, not just an abstract idea. MindWalk is betting that inferring biological properties through vector operations clears that bar. The EPO's review will be the real test of whether the company's data moat is legally defensible.
