MT Group Surpasses 5,000 Customized Biospecimen Collections, Fortifying CRO Leadership

MT Group, a Los Angeles-based specialty biospecimen contract research organization (CRO), has surpassed 5,000 customized biospecimen collections — the first time the company has publicly put a number on its core program. Yahoo Finance reported the milestone on June 2, 2026, marking 23 years since the company was founded to solve a problem that standard tissue banks cannot: getting the exact biological samples researchers need, from the exact patients they specify.
Unlike off-the-shelf biobanks that sell leftover archived samples, MT Group builds each collection from scratch. Sponsors define their patient criteria, timepoints, and sample types — then MT Group recruits and collects in real time across a network of more than 150 sites in the U.S. and beyond.
Translational research — the work that turns lab discoveries into actual treatments — often demands samples that no biobank has on its shelves. A drug team developing a cancer diagnostic may need blood and tissue from the same patient, taken before any therapy starts, then again at three and six months. Archived samples collected years ago for a different purpose simply cannot meet those requirements.
MT Group calls its solution "purpose-built prospective collection." Founder and President Marc Siegel described the real work as happening before a single sample is drawn. "Most of the work that defines our business is invisible from the outside," Yahoo Finance quoted him as saying. "It happens in the design phase... when we sit down with a sponsor's translational team and figure out exactly which patients, which timepoints, and which preanalytical conditions are required."
The 5,000-collection milestone covers more than 50 disease indications, according to Yahoo Finance. About half of the work is cancer-focused. The rest spans autoimmune and other complex conditions where sponsors need tightly matched samples with deep patient data attached — details like treatment history, disease stage, and lab values that a standard biobank record rarely includes.
MT Group's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tom Moss, is a board-certified pediatric hematologist and oncologist. His team provides dual pathologist review on 100% of FFPE tissue blocks — meaning two separate pathologists must sign off on every formalin-fixed tissue sample before it ships. That layer of oversight is central to the company's pitch on data quality.
The global human biospecimen market is projected to reach $8.02 billion by 2035, growing at an annual rate of 8.8%, according to market analysis cited in live research on the announcement. A narrower slice — the biospecimen procurement services segment — is forecast to hit $207.40 million by the same year. Custom, prospective collections like MT Group's command higher margins than bulk archived samples.
Industry analysts view MT Group's public disclosure of the 5,000 figure as a deliberate signal of scale and reliability. In a fragmented market where smaller vendors often struggle to maintain consistent clinical metadata, hitting a verifiable milestone matters to pharmaceutical and biotech sponsors choosing a collection partner for a multi-year drug development program.
The downstream stakes are real. Collections built to tight specifications feed the development of companion diagnostics — lab tests that tell doctors whether a specific drug will work for a specific patient. Oncology and autoimmune patients stand to benefit most. Better samples mean more reliable biomarker data, which can shorten the time it takes to validate a new test or bring a therapy to market.
MT Group's network now spans the U.S., South America, Europe, and Asia. The company says its collections have been used by translational research and assay development sponsors worldwide, including senior scientists at top-ten pharmaceutical companies who have cited MT Group's input during the study design phase as a key part of their research process.
