CATL Unveils TECTRANS II Commercial Vehicle Battery Solution at IAA Transportation 2026

CATL, the world's largest battery maker, unveiled TECTRANS II at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany — a next-generation battery for electric trucks and buses. The modular platform delivers up to 1,000 kilometers of driving range and cuts vehicle development time by half, according to AP News.
The battery is built to last 12 years and 1.5 million kilometers with 70% capacity remaining, helping fleet owners protect their asset value. CATL also signed a deal with DHL Group to build Green Freight Corridors across Europe, National Post reported.
The battery platform cuts vehicle development cycles by 50% and slashes R&D costs by 60% to 70%, according to Street Insider. Truck makers can now swap components faster and launch new models sooner without massive engineering overhauls.
TECTRANS II supports flexible battery swaps and charging options. Operators can choose different energy capacities and payloads based on their routes, The Recorder noted. This flexibility means one platform fits many truck types and missions.
Heavy-duty trucks age fast and suffer harsh conditions. TECTRANS II is engineered for 1.5 million kilometers — roughly 500,000 to 750,000 miles — over 12 years, The Whig reported. After that lifespan, it still holds 70% of its original capacity.
This durability matters for fleet operators. Better battery health means higher resale value when trucks reach their service life. Protecting asset value helps make electric truck fleets financially viable long-term.
