Skanska Secures Additional $238 Million Contract for Virginia Data Center Construction
Skanska has signed a USD 238 million contract — about SEK 2.2 billion — to build a new data center in Virginia, USA, according to PR Newswire. The deal adds to an existing relationship with a repeat client, signaling continued momentum in the booming US data center construction market.
The project covers 22,000 square meters, or roughly 237,000 square feet, of new data center space. Construction is set to begin in August 2026 and wrap up in May 2028, Barchart reported.
What the $238M Virginia Data Center Will Include
The new facility will house five data halls — the core rooms where servers and computing equipment live. Beyond the main building, the contract also covers associated site work and underground utility infrastructure, according to PR Newswire UK.
The facility spans 22,000 square meters. That is roughly the size of three American football fields. It is a large-scale build designed to handle serious computing demand.
Construction Timeline Runs From 2026 to 2028
Work on the site will kick off in August 2026. Skanska expects to hand over the completed data center in May 2028. That gives the project a roughly 21-month construction window, according to Yahoo Finance.
The contract will be added to Skanska's US order bookings in the third quarter of 2026. That means it will show up in the company's financial reports starting that quarter.
