Rockstar Games Opens GTA 6 Pre-Orders, Unveiling Cover Art for November 2026 Release

Rockstar Games has officially revealed the cover art for *Grand Theft Auto VI* and announced that pre-orders will open globally on June 25, 2026, according to La Provincia. The game is set to launch on November 19, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — marking one of the most anticipated release dates in gaming history.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick called the upcoming fiscal year a "breakout year" driven by the title, confirming the November 19 date is now "firmly locked," Levante reported. Shares in Take-Two jumped 4.4% in premarket trading immediately after the announcement.
Rockstar released the official cover art through social media on June 18, 2026. It follows the series' signature "paneled" animated style. The company confirmed: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will officially begin on June 25 on digital storefronts and at other select retailers," according to Diario de Mallorca.
Notably, no new gameplay trailer accompanied the cover art reveal. El Día noted that industry analysts believe Rockstar is saving a full gameplay deep-dive for the actual pre-order launch date of June 25. The Rockstar website made the new cover art available in resolutions up to 5K ultrawide.
*GTA 6* takes players back to the fictional state of Leonida — based on Florida — and its main city, Vice City, inspired by Miami. This is the first mainline return to Vice City since 2002. The game features dual protagonists: Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, described as a "romantic criminal duo," per El Correo Gallego.
Unlike *GTA V*, which launched on older hardware, *GTA 6* is built exclusively for current-generation consoles. A PC version remains unconfirmed for 2026. Rockstar has historically followed a "console-first" pattern, releasing PC versions one to two years after the console launch, La Opinión de Murcia noted.
Some analysts estimate *GTA 6* could sell up to 46 million units on launch day alone — potentially the biggest entertainment launch in history, according to Diario Córdoba. Morgan Stanley projects 40 million copies sold within the first year. Take-Two leadership forecast an 8% rise in fiscal 2027 revenue tied to the November window.
There is also growing debate over pricing. While a $70 standard price is expected, some analysts suggest Rockstar may push the base price to $79.99 or even $89.99 — which could pressure other major studios to follow, Información reported. Bank of America said the broader industry is watching Rockstar's pricing strategy closely.
Not everyone is ready to celebrate. Some consumers and critics are urging caution. They point to the troubled launch of *Cyberpunk 2077* in 2020 and Rockstar's own poorly received *GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition* as reasons to wait for reviews before pre-ordering, La Opinión de Zamora noted.
The core concern is simple: five months before launch, there is still no footage of the game running on a PS5 or Xbox Series X. El Periódico de Extremadura reported that some analysts describe asking consumers to pre-order now — without a performance trailer — as a "bold and risky" move. Rockstar has not commented on when a third trailer will arrive.
