Zee Entertainment Appoints Ashish Mishra as New CMO to Lead Network Marketing and Brand Strategy

Ashish Mishra’s HSBC tenure included leading regional marketing across the UAE, Oman, Egypt, Bahrain and Qatar, with roles including Product Marketing Head and Regional Marketing Lead.
Mishra began his career in advertising with Lowe Lintas as Executive Brand Communications (2004–2006) and earlier spent time at DDB Mudra Group (2003).
Education details: Mishra holds a postgraduate degree from MICA, Ahmedabad, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering.
Kartik Mahadev joined Zee in 2019 as head of marketing and communications and was appointed CMO in 2021; he will move to a revenue-focused role within the organisation.
Mishra expressed admiration for Zee as a long-standing homegrown brand and signaled his intention to sharpen Zee’s brand and content strategy and deepen audience engagement across the network.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises has named Ashish Mishra as its new Chief Marketing Officer, the company announced. Mishra will be based at Zee's Mumbai headquarters and report directly to CEO Punit Goenka, according to Indian Broadcasting World.
Mishra brings over two decades of marketing experience to the role. He most recently served as CMO at insurance startup ACKO for six years. He will lead Zee's marketing and brand strategy across all its businesses, overseeing consumer campaigns and strategic initiatives, Media Brief reported.
Before ACKO, Mishra held senior roles at HSBC across multiple markets. He led regional marketing across the UAE, Oman, Egypt, Bahrain, and Qatar, serving as both Product Marketing Head and Regional Marketing Lead, Pitch On Net reported. He also held roles at HSBC in India and London.
Mishra started his career in advertising. He worked at DDB Mudra Group in 2003 before joining Lowe Lintas as Executive Brand Communications from 2004 to 2006. He holds a postgraduate degree from MICA, Ahmedabad, and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering, according to Social Samosa.
CEO Punit Goenka praised the hire, pointing to Mishra's track record of building consumer-centric brands. Goenka said Mishra would strengthen Zee's brand proposition as the company enters its "next growth phase," according to Media4Growth.
Mishra called Zee a "long-standing homegrown brand" and said he plans to sharpen its brand and content strategy. He also highlighted deepening audience engagement across the network as a key priority, Media Brief reported.
The appointment means a change at the top of Zee's marketing team. Current CMO Kartik Mahadev will move to a new revenue-focused role within the organisation. Zee said full details of his new mandate would be announced separately, according to Pitch On Net.
Mahadev joined Zee in 2019 as head of marketing and communications. He was elevated to CMO in 2021, giving him a four-year run in the role. His shift signals Zee is restructuring its leadership as it faces a fast-changing, digital-led media landscape, Indian Broadcasting World reported.
The hire is part of a broader push by Zee to strengthen its brand and content capabilities. The company framed the appointment around the need to grow consumer engagement in a media market increasingly driven by digital platforms, according to Social Samosa.
Zee is one of India's largest media networks. With Mishra now at the helm of marketing, the company is betting that a leader with both finance and startup experience can help it compete more sharply for audiences and advertiser attention, Media4Growth noted.
