DAVIDsTEA expands Ontario footprint with new flagship store at Mississauga's Square One, aiming for 25 Canada-wide locations.

DAVIDsTEA (TSXV: DTEA) has opened a new flagship store at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga, Ontario — the largest shopping centre in the province, according to Chatham Daily News. The opening marks the company's seventh location in Ontario and adds to its growing push back into physical retail after years of operating mainly online.
The Square One store is part of a broader expansion plan. DAVIDsTEA says it expects to reach 25 stores across Canada by the end of its fiscal year, according to Daily Herald Tribune.
The new Mississauga location joins six other Ontario stores already in the DAVIDsTEA portfolio. Those include spots at CF Toronto Eaton Centre and CF Sherway Gardens in Toronto, Limeridge Mall in Hamilton, CF Rideau Centre in Ottawa, Masonville Place in London, and the Oshawa Centre, according to Owen Sound Sun Times.
Square One is one of Canada's busiest malls. Placing a flagship there puts DAVIDsTEA in front of a large, high-traffic audience in the Greater Toronto Area — a key market for the brand's retail comeback.
DAVIDsTEA plans to open two additional locations before the fiscal year ends. The next stores will arrive at Southgate Centre in Edmonton and Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby, B.C., according to Woodstock Sentinel Review. Both openings are set for the fall.
Those two stores will bring the national total to 25 locations. The westward push signals that DAVIDsTEA is not limiting its physical revival to Ontario. It is now building a coast-to-coast retail footprint.
DAVIDsTEA once operated over 200 locations across North America. The company filed for creditor protection in 2020 and closed nearly all of its physical stores. It shifted heavily to e-commerce and wholesale to survive, according to Shoreline Beacon.
The current store openings represent a deliberate, measured return to bricks-and-mortar retail. Rather than rebuilding hundreds of locations, DAVIDsTEA is choosing high-traffic, high-visibility malls. Each new store is meant to act as a brand statement as much as a sales point.
The company describes itself as a leading tea merchant in North America, according to Ontario Farmer. Its product lineup includes loose-leaf teas, tea accessories, and seasonal blends sold both in stores and online.
The flagship format at Square One is likely designed to showcase the full range of what the brand offers. Flagship stores typically carry broader product selections and offer a more immersive shopping experience than smaller outlets. For DAVIDsTEA, it is a chance to remind Canadian shoppers that the brand is back in a big way.
