Intrepid Metals identifies extensive porphyry alteration corridor at Arizona's Corral Copper Project.

Intrepid Metals has found strong signs of a major copper deposit at its Corral Copper Project in Arizona. Lab results from a rock sampling campaign have mapped a large northeast-trending alteration corridor — a zone of chemically changed rock — stretching from the Curly Porphyry Target to the Ringo Zone, according to Recorder.
The discovery strengthens the case for drilling at the site. Intrepid plans an induced polarization-magnetotelluric survey — a method that maps underground rock and metal using electrical signals — followed by a full drill campaign, Daily Herald Tribune reported.
The lab results come from field work done in May and June 2026. Scientists used short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectral analysis to study surface rock samples. This tool reads the chemical fingerprint of minerals in rock. The data revealed several key signs of a porphyry copper system — the type of large, low-grade deposit that produces most of the world's copper, Shoreline Beacon reported.
Specific indicators found include elevated white mica alteration, localized aluminum-hydroxyl wavelength vectors, and the presence of jarosite and epidote mineral domains. In plain terms, these are mineral patterns that form when hot, copper-rich fluids move through rock — a classic signal that a large ore body may lie below, according to Owen Sound Sun Times.
The Curly Porphyry Target sits at the heart of the newly identified corridor. Intrepid says these results further strengthen Curly as its top exploration priority. The upcoming geophysical survey will focus there first, Chatham Daily News reported.
Porphyry copper systems are among the most sought-after targets in mining. They can hold billions of pounds of copper spread across a wide underground area. Finding the right surface alteration patterns is a critical early step before committing to expensive drilling, according to Ontario Farmer.
Intrepid says this is only a preliminary interpretation. Additional analytical results from the Phase 1 Sampling Program are still pending. The company expects more data to sharpen the picture of the corridor's size and structure, Cochrane Times Post reported.
The full picture will inform where exactly Intrepid drills first. The IP-MT survey will help image what lies underground before a single drill hole is sunk. That sequencing — sample, survey, then drill — is designed to cut risk and focus spending, according to Paris Star.
Arizona is home to some of the largest copper mines in North America. The state's geology is well-suited to porphyry copper systems. Intrepid's Corral Project sits in a region that has drawn growing exploration interest as copper demand rises globally, Woodstock Sentinel Review reported.
