Viktor Antonov's Final Game, Guns of Eschaton, Unveiled as Apocalyptic Western Soulslike FPS

The reveal emphasizes cooperative play, with the trailer showing a second player alongside the main character and multiple outlets noting solo or cooperative play.
The trailer depicts a surreal lineup of enemies—including living coffins, demonic bat-winged figures, and floating eyeballs—underscoring a blend of Western frontier and cosmic horror.
The Codex is described as a Witcher 3–style bestiary mechanic, where Sequence Points guide players to exploit enemy weaknesses, reinforcing a tactical approach to encounters.
The project is framed as Viktor Antonov's final game, with studio head Fuad Kuliev noting they shaped the world together from the earliest stages; some reports also reference Antonov's passing around the time of the reveal.
Some outlets list Sword Panda as the developer, while others credit Eschatology Entertainment, highlighting a discrepancy in developer attribution across reports.
Publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment have unveiled Guns of Eschaton, a first-person Soulslike shooter set in a dying, occult-ravaged America. The game is the final original universe created by Viktor Antonov — the art director behind Half-Life 2 and Dishonored — who passed away in early 2025 at age 53, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
The reveal dropped on June 30, 2026, alongside a Steam wishlist and confirmed platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, reports VGChartz. No release date has been set. Studio head Fuad Kuliev said, "From the earliest stages of development, I had the privilege of shaping this world together with Viktor."
Antonov co-founded Eschatology Entertainment in mid-2022 alongside Kuliev, Dmytro Kostiukevych, and Boris Nikolaev, according to Rock Paper Shotgun. The 75-person studio spans 8 countries. Antonov died before the game's reveal, making Guns of Eschaton a posthumous showcase of his signature style — the same "architectural storytelling" that defined City 17 in Half-Life 2 and Dunwall in Dishonored.
Games Press describes the game as "the final original universe" Antonov envisioned. Kuliev frames it as more than a product. He calls it a cultural artifact — the result of a creative partnership cut short. Early investor backing from Krafton and The Games Fund signals serious commercial expectations, notes Wccftech.
The game takes place in a reimagined 19th-century America swallowed by an occult apocalypse. Players travel from the West Coast to the East Coast through this collapsing frontier. The reveal trailer shows a surreal roster of enemies: living coffins, demonic bat-winged figures, and floating eyeballs, according to Push Square.
GamingBible nicknamed it "FPS Red Dead 2," praising its "vibrant, stretching prairies" and skyboxes. But more specialized outlets caution the comparison only goes so far. The game's punishing Soulslike difficulty will make it a far more niche experience than Rockstar's Western epic, notes IXBT Games.
Guns of Eschaton is built around slow, deliberate combat. Players use specialized ammo, precise parries, and dashes. There is no room to spray and pray. The game also features a Codex — a bestiary system similar to The Witcher 3 — that tracks enemy weaknesses. Players spend Sequence Points to unlock those weaknesses and exploit them mid-fight, according to Games Press.
IXBT Games highlights that this "every bullet matters" design is what separates the game from the ongoing boomer-shooter revival. The game also supports 2-player online co-op with full shared progression. The trailer shows a second player alongside the main character throughout the reveal, confirms Push Square.
Most major outlets, including Games Press and VGChartz, credit Eschatology Entertainment as the developer. But database listings and some reports, including from Gematsu and Wikipedia, list Sword Panda Limited in that role. No official explanation has been given for the discrepancy.
One theory is that Sword Panda is a distribution entity tied to publisher 4Divinity's parent company, Singapore-based GCL Global Holdings Ltd. The confusion has yet to be resolved publicly. Investors and fans alike are waiting for clarity ahead of what could be a landmark debut for the studio, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
