Cypherpunk Technologies Launches World's Largest Zcash Mining Fleet, Bolstering Network Security

Asset purchase agreement details: On Aug. 17–18, 2026, Cypherpunk Technologies entered into an Asset Purchase Agreement with Moria Mining, Winklevoss Treasury Investments, LLC, and Cypherpunk Mining LLC to acquire mining equipment, hosting rights, and related assets for $33,333,333, payable via a pre-funded warrant to purchase 43,290,042 shares of Cypherpunk common stock.
ZODL-aligned strategy and miner issuance: The deal positions Cypherpunk Mining alongside Cypherpunk's ZEC treasury and privacy investments anchored by ZODL, with miners receiving approximately 43,800 ZEC per month.
Orchard pool vulnerability context: Earlier this year, Shielded Labs' Taylor Hornby disclosed a vulnerability in Zcash's Orchard pool involving a flaw in its zero-knowledge circuit that could theoretically allow an attacker to create counterfeit ZEC.
U.S.-based deployment and uptime: The Cypherpunk Mining fleet is online across U.S.-based facilities with industry-leading uptimes and hosting rates, supporting the scaling of the mining operation.
Cypherpunk Technologies has launched what it calls the world's largest Zcash mining fleet, deploying about 4.2 GSol/s of hashrate across U.S. facilities — enough to control roughly 18% of the entire Zcash network, according to The Block and TipRanks. The expansion was funded by a $33.33 million equity deal with Winklevoss Capital, paid not in cash but in a pre-funded warrant for over 43 million shares of Cypherpunk common stock.
The new operation, called Cypherpunk Mining, is now live and makes Cypherpunk Technologies the Zcash network's single largest active mining fleet. The Nasdaq-listed company, ticker CYPH, is betting that combining mining power with a ZEC treasury will make it a dominant force in privacy-focused cryptocurrency.
On August 17–18, 2026, Cypherpunk entered an Asset Purchase Agreement with Moria Mining and Winklevoss Treasury Investments, LLC, according to TipRanks. The deal covered mining equipment, hosting rights, and related assets. Instead of cash, Cypherpunk paid with a pre-funded warrant to purchase 43,290,042 shares of its common stock — valued at $33,333,333.
The structure is unusual. Winklevoss Capital, founded by twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, took equity rather than dollars. GuruFocus noted that the deal ties the Winklevoss affiliates directly to Cypherpunk's stock performance, aligning their interests with the company's long-term growth.
Cypherpunk has brought in Kevin Zhang to lead the new operation as head of mining. Zhang is a veteran in the crypto mining industry. His hire signals that Cypherpunk is building this as a serious, long-term business — not a side project, according to The Block.
The fleet runs across multiple U.S.-based facilities with what the company describes as industry-leading uptimes and hosting rates. Miners on the network produce roughly 43,800 ZEC per month. At current prices, that is a significant stream of newly minted Zcash flowing directly to Cypherpunk.
Cypherpunk is not just a miner. The company already holds a ZEC treasury and has investments tied to ZODL, a privacy-focused financial product. GuruFocus reported that Cypherpunk Mining is designed to sit alongside these assets as part of one unified privacy technology strategy.
The company has also hinted at buying more ZEC in the future. Controlling 18% of the network's hashrate gives Cypherpunk both mining revenue and a loud voice in the network's direction. The goal, it says, is to eventually hold a meaningful share of ZEC's total circulating supply.
The launch comes after a major scare for Zcash earlier this year. Shielded Labs researcher Taylor Hornby disclosed a vulnerability in Zcash's Orchard pool — the network's newest privacy layer. A flaw in its zero-knowledge circuit could have let an attacker create counterfeit ZEC out of thin air, according to The Energy Mag.
The bug was patched before anyone could exploit it, but it rattled confidence in the network. Cypherpunk argues that a larger, more robust mining fleet strengthens Zcash's overall security. With 18% of hashrate now under one roof, the company says it can help protect the network from future attacks.
