KKR Buys Minority Stake in BookMyShow, Boosting India's Live Entertainment Sector

Avendus Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor for BookMyShow in the transaction, with Trilegal acting as legal counsel.
BookMyShow operates in more than 700 towns and cities in India and has regional footprints in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UAE and Sri Lanka.
BookMyShow Live has hosted major live properties beyond cinema, including Guns N' Roses tours and Cirque du Soleil BAZZAR in India.
KKR’s India investments extend beyond BookMyShow, with holdings in Medicover India, Lighthouse Learning, Vini Cosmetics and Healthcare Global Enterprises.
BookMyShow is operated by Bigtree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the umbrella behind the BookMyShow platform.
Global investment firm KKR has signed a deal to acquire a minority stake in BookMyShow, India's leading ticketing and entertainment platform, according to Storyboard18. The move targets BookMyShow Live, the company's full-stack live events arm, and is designed to scale large-scale concerts, tours, and productions across India and international markets.
Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals. BookMyShow is operated by Bigtree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and serves fans across more than 700 towns and cities in India, plus markets in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UAE, and Sri Lanka, Adgully reported.
KKR is making a direct bet on India's fast-growing out-of-home entertainment market. The firm pointed to rising discretionary spending and India's young consumer base as key drivers. Akshay Tanna of KKR said the investment supports "India's out-of-home entertainment growth," according to Adgully.
BookMyShow CEO Ashish Hemrajani welcomed KKR's "long-term strategic outlook" as central to the partnership. The deal is not just about capital. It brings global networks and operational muscle to help BookMyShow punch at an international level, Storyboard18 reported.
BookMyShow Live has built a strong track record. The platform has already brought Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, and Guns N' Roses tours to Indian audiences. It also hosted Lollapalooza India, Cirque du Soleil BAZZAR, Disney's Aladdin, and the NBA's first-ever games in India, according to Whalesbook.
These events show the scale of what BookMyShow Live already manages. With KKR's backing, the company plans to bring even more international acts and large productions to India. Talent acquisition, production, promotion, and audience development are all part of the growth plan.
BookMyShow is not KKR's first major India bet. The firm already holds stakes in Medicover India, Lighthouse Learning, Vini Cosmetics, and Healthcare Global Enterprises, according to Adgully. Those investments show KKR's long-term commitment to India's consumer economy.
For this deal, Avendus Capital served as BookMyShow's exclusive financial advisor. Trilegal acted as legal counsel. The transaction reflects a broader wave of investor interest in India's digital economy and live entertainment sector, Storyboard18 noted.
For everyday fans, the deal could mean more world-class events coming to India. BookMyShow Live plans to expand its reach across both Indian and global markets. The platform's presence in Southeast Asia and the Middle East gives KKR a regional foothold beyond India alone.
The investment signals that global capital now sees India's live entertainment sector as a serious growth market. India's young population and rising incomes make it one of the most attractive entertainment markets in the world right now, Adgully reported.
