Denza Unveils Z Electric Supercar Featuring 1,582 Horsepower and Rapid 9-Minute Charging at Goodwood.
BYD's premium brand Denza has unveiled the Z supercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, claiming it is the most advanced electric supercar ever built. The four-seat machine packs 1,582 horsepower and hits 62 mph in about 2.3 seconds, according to The State.
The Z comes in three body styles — Coupe, Spider, and Racing — with a hotter Special Edition planned for a Nürburgring lap record attempt later this year. UK prices start at £142,900 for the Coupe and rise to £172,900 for the Spider, The News Tribune reported.
A New Platform Built Purely for Speed
The Denza Z is the first car built on the brand's all-new e3 Sports Car Platform. Three motors power the car — one at the front and two independent motors at the rear. Together they produce 1,582 hp and 915 lb-ft of torque, according to The Olympian.
The Coupe and Spider both hit 0-to-62-mph in around 2.3 seconds. A Special Edition version will push even harder in a bid to set a production car lap record at the Nürburgring later this year. Design duties fell to Wolfgang Egger, the veteran stylist known for his work at Audi and Alfa Romeo.
Steer-by-Wire and Magnetic Suspension Redefine Handling
The Z ditches a traditional steering column entirely. Instead it uses a steer-by-wire system, meaning computers translate driver inputs into steering movements with no physical link. The car also rides on DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, Charlotte Observer reported.
Magnetorheological suspension uses a magnetic fluid that can change its stiffness in under 10 milliseconds. That is faster than a blink of an eye. The system can also shift the car's weight around its front axle, improving cornering balance at high speed.
Second-Gen Blade Battery Charges in Under 10 Minutes
The Z is powered by a second-generation Blade battery with a 76 kWh capacity. It can accept up to 1,500 kW of charging power through a single connector, according to Kentucky.com. That is an enormous charging rate compared to today's fastest public chargers, which typically top out at 350 kW.
Real-world charging from 10% to 97% takes about 9 minutes. Denza says that roughly matches the time it takes to fill a petrol tank. The Blade battery design is already proven in BYD's mass-market cars but has been heavily upgraded here for track-level performance demands.
Denza Targets Europe With a Bold Price Tag
The Denza Z is aimed squarely at European supercar buyers. The Coupe starts at £142,900 and the Spider at £172,900 in the UK, putting it in direct competition with cars like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and Ferrari SF90, according to Ledger-Enquirer.
The Goodwood debut marks a major step for BYD's push into Western premium markets. Denza has historically sold only in China. Revealing the Z at one of motorsport's most prestigious events signals the brand is serious about competing at the top end of the global EV market.
