City Electric Supply Marks 75th Anniversary with Company-Wide Day of Giving Across North America

City Electric Supply (CES) marked its 75th anniversary not with a party, but with a company-wide day of giving called Founder's Day, according to Financial Post. More than 5,000 team members across North America took part in the effort.
The campaign delivered over 70,000 pounds of canned goods and supplies to local food pantries through more than 700 deliveries, Cochrane Times Post reported. Teams also assembled 550 care packages — packed with 6,600 essential supplies and handwritten notes — for service members deployed overseas.
CES branches across the U.S. and Canada coordinated more than 700 separate food deliveries on a single day, according to Woodstock Sentinel Review. The donations went directly to local food pantries in communities where CES operates. The scale of the effort — 70,000 pounds — is roughly the weight of five adult elephants.
Each branch took part locally, making the event a true grassroots push rather than a single centralized donation drive, Paris Star reported. That structure let teams connect directly with the food banks in their own neighborhoods.
Alongside the food drive, CES employees assembled 550 care packages for active service members stationed overseas, according to Stratford Beacon Herald. Each package contained essential supplies, and many included handwritten notes from team members. In total, 6,600 individual items were packed and shipped.
The gesture aimed to show support beyond local communities, extending the company's reach to troops far from home, The Whig reported. It reflects a broader theme of service that CES leaders say sits at the core of the company's identity.
CES co-CEOs John Gray and Blair Feidler both praised the event as a reflection of the company's core values. They pointed to service, generosity, and community as the pillars that have guided CES for 75 years, according to Fort Saskatchewan Record.
Gray and Feidler said the anniversary was the right moment to give back in a meaningful, visible way. Rather than celebrate internally, they chose to turn the milestone outward — toward the communities that helped CES grow, Daily Herald Tribune reported.
The Founder's Day event was organized through CES Cares, the company's social impact division, which launched in 2016, according to Whitecourt Star. Its mission is to support people who need it most in every market where CES operates. The division has grown to coordinate large-scale giving efforts like this one.
CES was founded in 1950 and has grown into one of North America's largest electrical supply distributors. With branches spread across the continent, Founder's Day gave the company a way to make a unified statement of purpose at scale, Pincher Creek Echo reported.
