IO Interactive and Saber Unveil Hitman Classic Trilogy Remastered with Major Visual Overhaul

IO Interactive and Saber Interactive have announced Hitman Classic Trilogy Remastered, a remastered collection of Hitman: Codename 47, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, and Hitman: Contracts, launching in 2027 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The project aims to preserve the original trilogy’s “no backstory” tone and player-driven stealth and disguise-based gameplay while updating it for modern hardware. Developers are adding enhanced visuals with improved character models, higher-resolution textures, and upgraded environments, alongside a new Photo Mode and an instant graphics toggle that lets players switch between original and remastered looks. Coverage also highlights that the remaster is intended as a full visual overhaul rather than a simple port or upscale. Screenshots and descriptions suggest meaningful environment modernization, including more fully modeled areas where older 2D assets existed. During the same announcements, IO Interactive also discussed ongoing work around Hitman World of Assassination and other projects, reinforcing a broader push to modernize earlier titles.
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak announced Hitman Classic Trilogy Remastered during IOI Access, and the showcase also featured Tim Willits discussing his work on the game—further underscoring the studio’s internal leadership and development involvement alongside Saber Interactive.
One of the explicitly called-out mechanics to carry into the remaster package is the original “Silent Assassin” rating system from Hitman 2: Silent Assassin—an element not mentioned in the summary.
The announcement screenshots reportedly show older 2D billboard background assets replaced with fully modeled 3D environments, demonstrating a specific category of environment modernization beyond a general “higher-resolution” update.
During the same IO Interactive showcase coverage, Wiz Khalifa was announced as the next Elusive Target in Hitman World of Assassination, and Bawma was revealed to return in 007 First Light’s upcoming story DLC.
The release is positioned as part of a broader remastering trend; Game Asylum notes that Hitman HD Trilogy previously launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2013, providing useful historical context for how IO/Saber have approached older Hitman collections before.
